At the 21st International Conference on Urban Health in Wellington in November 2025, the Melbourne-based RECETAS team at RMIT University showcased how nature, community connection, and co-design can reshape the health of urban environments. Their contribution offered timely insights to a forum focused on climate, equity, and wellbeing across the Pacific and beyond.
The team also presented at the Ecological Society of Australia conference in Adelaide, contributing to Professor Sarah Bekessy’s session on nature-positive cities. Discussions highlighted the potential of nature-based social interventions to foster more inclusive, equitable, and biodiverse urban futures—particularly when centred on communities often excluded from mainstream planning and public health systems.
These perspectives, including those of Indigenous communities, LGBTIQA+ asylum seekers, refugees, and other underrepresented groups, underscore a vital message: belonging, care, and access to nature are foundational to climate-ready, people-centred cities.
